Violet Queen

Calochortus splendens (Liliaceae), the lilac mariposa lily, is a bulbous plant native to the coastal mountains and valleys of California and Baja California, growing in chaparral. 'Violet Queen' is a selection with large, cup-shaped flowers in lavender to violet, each petal marked with a darker purple blotch at the base and a tuft of white hairs. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil kept dry in summer; hardy to around -10 °C.
