Freesia viridis

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
Freesia viridis is a cormous species native to the Cape region of South Africa, notable for its unusually olive-green funnel-shaped flowers, sometimes tinged with brown, borne in arching, one-sided spikes in spring. Less fragrant than garden freesias, it attracts specific pollinators suited to its unusual colouring. Grow in well-drained soil, in full sun; the corm is frost-tender and should be protected or lifted in cold climates.
