This unidentified accession belongs to the genus Watsonia (Iridaceae), which comprises around fifty species endemic to southern Africa, mainly centred on the Cape region. Watsonia species grow from a tunicated corm and form fans of stiff, sword-shaped leaves, above which a flowering stem rises in late spring or summer, bearing a spike of brightly coloured tubular flowers in shades of pink, red or orange depending on the species. The exact species of this accession has not been determined. Cultivation requires well-drained soil and a sunny position, with a distinct dry dormancy after flowering.
