Watsonia borbonica
W. meriana, with coral red flowers, is easy to grow in a half shaded position and should be kept humid until the middle of June.
The genus
Watsonia is entirely restricted to South Africa, with 30 wintergrowing species from western and southern Cape (Namaqualand to Port Elizabeth) and about 20 evergreen or summergrowing species in the north eastern part of South Africa (from Port Elizabeth northwards) of which 17 species belong to the section Gladioloide. Its appearance is very much like a gladiolus, but its flowers are quite different. Very often chlorose problems in alkaline soils.
