Watsonia fergusoniae

Endemic to the Agulhas Plain as far as the Gourits River, in Western Cape fynbos (South Africa), Watsonia fergusoniae is a cormous perennial threatened by invasive plants and excessive flower-picking. Like other Watsonia, it produces sword-shaped, fan-arranged sheathing leaves and an erect flowering stem bearing a spike of funnel-shaped flowers typical of the genus. Flowering takes place in spring, in the winter-rainfall region. It requires full sun, well-drained soil, and a dry summer dormancy of the corm after seed-set.
