The precise identity of this Watsonia could not be confirmed with certainty; the following description is therefore given at genus level. Watsonia is a genus of Iridaceae with around fifty species, nearly all endemic to southern Africa, split between the winter-rainfall Cape region and the summer-rainfall areas of KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga. These are cormous perennials with fan-shaped leaves and tall flowering stems bearing spikes of tubular, often zygomorphic flowers in shades of pink, red, orange or white. Flowering occurs in spring or summer depending on origin. Cultivation requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
