As the exact species of this Watsonia could not be confirmed, this entry describes the genus in general. Native to southern Africa (South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini), Watsonia is a genus of about 50 perennial Iridaceae species growing from corms, with rigid, sword-shaped, fan-arranged leaves. Tall, erect spikes, sometimes up to 1.8 m, bear numerous tubular flowers flaring into six lobes, in shades of pink, red, orange or white, from late spring into summer depending on the species. Best grown in full sun with well-drained soil and some moisture while in active growth.
