Wurmbea dioica

Endemic to Australia, where it is widespread across all states, Wurmbea dioica is a small perennial herb growing from a corm with fibrous roots. Three linear to thread-like leaves, 1 to 35 cm long, surround a flowering stem 3.5 to 40 cm tall. Between June and November it bears two to fifteen white, star-shaped flowers marked with a purple to greenish nectary band; individual plants may carry male, female or bisexual flowers. The fruit is a capsule 5 to 10 mm long. The species regenerates from both seed and corms, often after fire, and requires well-drained soil with dry summer dormancy.
