Zephyranthes candida /100 — Rain Lily
From the fine evergreen foliage, the white crocus- like flowers appear in July, but a drought can delay the flowering and suddenly after a heavy shower the "rain lilies" will open. Best grown in sunny borders which are kept moist during the summer. If left undisturbed, the planting will develop into a dense evergreen clump of grassy foliage which suddenly becomes white with flowers during August and September.
The genus
A genus widely distributed throughout America and generally found in wet areas. We have not yet explored many of the 30 species of this genus, but it seems to contain many interesting plants from all sorts of habitats. 'Rain lilies' generally flower after a heavy rainfall. Once established they are best left undisturbed. The genus is similar to Habranthus
