Zephyranthes jacala (rouge)

Discovered near Jacala, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico, this red-flowered form of Zephyranthes (placed within the Zephyranthes katheriniae complex) is a small bulbous plant in the Amaryllidaceae, known as a 'rain lily'. The underground bulb produces fine, almost thread-like foliage and short stems of 15–20 cm bearing a single funnel-shaped flower in vivid crimson-red. Flowering, triggered by rainfall, occurs opportunistically in late summer and autumn. It requires a sunny position, well-drained soil, and dry dormancy.
