Libertia formosa

Libertia formosa (Iridaceae) is no longer an accepted name: it is now treated as a synonym of Libertia chilensis, covering the vigorous garden forms grouped under the name Formosa Group. Native to Chile, this evergreen rhizomatous perennial forms clumps 60 cm to 1 m high of narrow, leathery, dark green leaf fans. From late May to July, upright stems carry sprays of white, bowl-shaped flowers with yellow anthers, followed by ornamental capsules. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil, in a sheltered position.
