formosa

Libertia formosa (now often classified as a form of Libertia chilensis) is a robust perennial in the iris family (Iridaceae), native to Chile. It forms a dense mass of leathery, sword-shaped evergreen leaves, from which rise, in late spring to early summer, stiff stems bearing numerous cream-white, cup-shaped, three-petaled flowers with pale yellow anthers, arranged in panicles. The flowers are followed by decorative seed capsules. This species, sturdier than Libertia ixioides, reaches about 90 cm in height and is grown in full sun on well-drained soil in a sheltered spot, with moderate hardiness (down to about -10°C).
