Anemone blanda Blue Shades
Comes from South Eastern Europe and the Middle East where it occurs in woodlands and rocky subalpine meadows. Prefers relatively moist and humusrich woodland soils where it will naturalise, but tolerates dry summers. Very good in association with Galanthus elwesii, Cyclamen hederifolium, or Allium triquetrum. Also makes an attractive potplant. During thespring 2009 we have found A blanda again in our gardens and it has prooved abiity to naturalise here. An advice: The Anemone can be associated with Cyclamen hederifolium: same place in the garden and with a different flowering period.
The genus
The storage organ is a fleshy rhizomatous root mostly presented as a rather uninspiring black shrivelled 'lump'. However, once well installed in shaded well drained woodland positions it is a very attractive and faithfully returning plant.
