Anemone coronaria bleu — anemone
This species is very well suited for the mediterranean climate with its dry and hot summers. Flowering starts as early as december and continues throughout thez spring. Often found wild or naturalised in rough prairies on the mediterranean coast. Very recommended for naturalising in aeras where the vegetation is not cut until the leaves have dried up(middle of May). The bulbs are produced from seed and the flowers come in a marvellous colour range varying from white, pink, red and purple.
The genus
The storage organ is a fleshy rhizomatous root mostly presented as a rather uninspiring black shrivelled 'lump'. However, once well installed in shaded well drained woodland positions it is a very attractive and faithfully returning plant.
