Freesia anomatheca

Anomatheca is the former generic name for Freesia laxa, a small cormous species from southern and eastern Africa, growing in damp grassland and forest clearings. Its slender stems bear loose clusters of small, star-shaped, bright red flowers spotted with dark purple, from spring to summer. Hardier than classic horticultural freesias, it tolerates winter moisture better and self-seeds readily. Grow in free-draining soil, half-shade to sun.
