Epipactus giganteus

The catalogue name "Epipactus giganteus" almost certainly corresponds to Epipactis gigantea (a spelling error in the genus), the orchid known as giant helleborine or stream orchid. Native to western North America, from Canada to central Mexico, it is an erect terrestrial orchid 30 cm to 1 m tall, with lance-shaped leaves sheathing the stem. The inflorescence bears two to three large reddish-brown flowers veined with purple, with a cup-shaped lip extending into a pointed tip. It flowers in spring and summer and grows in wet ground, along streambanks or hot springs, in partial shade.
