Endemic to South Africa (from the Cederberg to Bredasdorp, Northern and Western Cape), Moraea ovata (syn. Galaxia ovata) is a small, stemless cormous geophyte no more than 2-4 cm tall, growing on sandy and sandstone soils of flats and plateaus in the winter-rainfall region. Its oval leaves lie flat against the ground, with thickened, ciliate margins. Flowering occurs from winter to early spring in the Southern Hemisphere. This stock, raised from seed (ex), bears pink flowers, an unusual colour for a normally yellow-flowered species; its identification remains unconfirmed. It requires well-drained soil, full sun, and dry summer dormancy.
