ginger

This name "ginger" here refers to Hedychium gardnerianum, Kahili ginger, native to the Himalayas (India, Nepal). Very vigorous, it produces, from summer to autumn, tall spikes of strongly scented yellow flowers with long red-orange stamens. Grow in rich, cool soil, half-shade to sun; protect the rhizomes from frost in winter in a temperate climate, as this species can become invasive in a warm, humid climate.
