Lapeirousia neglecta

Described by Peter Goldblatt in 1992 and now reclassified in the genus Schizorhiza as Schizorhiza neglecta, this species, formerly named Lapeirousia neglecta or treated as a subspecies of L. corymbosa, is a cormous Iridaceae endemic to the southwestern Cape of South Africa. It belongs to the Lapeirousia corymbosa complex, a group of small plants with blue or white flowers, symmetrical markings and symmetrically arranged stamens, characteristic of sandy soils in the Cape region. Like other species of the genus, it has a bell- or triangle-shaped corm and narrow, ribbed leaves. It requires well-drained soil and a sunny position.
