Romulea duthiae (tabularis)

Romulea tabularis (synonym: Romulea duthieae) is a cormous member of the Iridaceae, endemic to South Africa, where it grows from Namaqualand to the southern Cape in moist sandy or limestone flats, often at the bottom of seasonal pools flooded in winter. Its globose to conical corm, bearing a circular basal ridge, produces narrow, linear, rush-like leaves. In late winter and the austral spring it bears sky-blue flowers with pointed petals on a slender stem. Native to a winter-rainfall region, in cultivation the species needs soil that is well drained yet moist in winter, full sun, and a thoroughly dry summer dormancy.
