Romulea obscura campestris

Romulea obscura var. campestris is a variety of Romulea obscura, a cormous Iridaceae endemic to South Africa, recognised in taxonomic checklists (Plants of Southern Africa) alongside the varieties blanda, obscura and subtestacea. Like other members of the genus, it grows in winter from a globose to top-shaped corm, compressed or asymmetric, with a circular to crescent-shaped basal ridge, and becomes dormant over summer. The cup-shaped flowers, reminiscent of crocuses, appear in late winter and spring. It requires well-drained sandy soil and a sunny position.
