At this stage early August) moste of our parcels have been posted. New orders generally leave within a week. An exception are the orders containing the evergreen species which will not be sent out until early September when the temeratures go down. Plant you bulbs immediately after reception in a slightly humified soil and then wait until the rains comes in early september (if not it is best to water them).
We have a lot of summer flowering in our bulb gardens at the moment: Crinum, Agapanthusn, Tulbaghia, Acis, Cyclamen, Lycoris, Amaryllis belladonna (3-4 weeks early) Even Zephyranthes are showing up (normally in September).
Apart from planting bulbs a useful activity is to trim down the evergreen plants such as iris unguiculris, Kniphofia or even Tulbaghia. In September fresh foliage will appear. Don’t forget to apply a mulch on you new (and old) plantings to prevent erosion, drying out and weeds to grow.
